For a single Liverpool starlet, this week’s FA Youth Cup final with Manchester City will have additional importance.

Bobby Duncan won’t call for much geeing up before Thursday’s battle, since the Reds striker goes into battle against his former team. The script is written and the point is set.

Manchester City price Duncan time, however at Liverpool he’s been making up for this. Since moving’house’ into Merseyside past summer, the 17-year old has gone from strength to strength. Together with 31 targets in all competitions, he’s the top goalscorer throughout the club’s below -18, below -19 and beneath -23 sides.

That’ll come as no surprise to anybody who watched the Whiston-born forwards as a schoolboy.

For club and country, the powerful, left-footed Duncan boasts a successful scoring record, along with his connection with strike partner Paul Glatzel in Liverpool has become the outstanding characteristic of Barry Lewtas’ beneath -18 team this year. Between them, the group have netted a remarkable 59 targets.

Lewtas along with his team, reluctantly, have been eager to downplay the value of two such talented frontmen. Hype isn’t something that’s encouraged in the Reds’ Kirkby Academy, in which Liverpool’s achievement was built around a powerful team ethos.

But targets cover the lease, and they compose the headlines also. In Duncan’s case, the style of his arrival in Liverpool, along with also his family’s long and rich history with the team, means he’ll always command attention.

His cousin, clearly, is Steven Gerrard, also you will find similarities that extend past the eye for purpose along with the bronchial scowl. Much like Gerrard, Duncan was born in Whiston and increased in Huyton. Much like Gerrard, he also attended Cardinal Heenan college in West Derby. Like Gerrard, he’s a lifelong Liverpudlian.

Contrary to Gerrard, however, he needed to go off to return.

Spotted as a seven-year-old playing Mossley Hill, Duncan spent some time in Liverpool and Everton, but wound up playing for Wigan Athletic instead. At 10, he had been picked up by Manchester City.

“They had been constructing their Academy at the moment,” he explained. “And with that investment I believed it’d be great place to keep my development”

In 2016, he made local headlines when getting the first England player at any level to evaluate a hat-trick against Brazil, achieving the feat in an under-16s global. The game ball with that game takes pride of place in Duncan’s house in Prescot.

“I have broken a great deal of documents in my entire life but nothing as large as that,” he informed the Liverpool Echo in the moment. “I thought about the likes of Shearer, Gerrard, Owen and Fowler — most of large players that have come up throughout the England junior positions.

“It hadn’t been done before and to believe that a child from Huyton has done it’s wonderful. It does not feel ”

Duncan scored 66 occasions for City at the 2015-16 year, but from the summer of 2017 had determined his future lay elsewhere. The pathway into the initial team in the Etihad, he believed, just wasn’t there. It’s a sense that’s been shared by lots, naturally, including the likes of Jadon Sancho and Rabbi Matondo.

And so Duncan turned into a lucrative professional contract provided to himpersonally, but with City keeping his registration he’d effectively lose a year of his profession, training together with Wigan Athletic’s initial -team for fitness, but not able to play aggressive games.

It was a frustrating moment, but the pay-off could come when Liverpool came calling .

Duncan’s two younger brothers are equally on that the Reds’ novels, and also in June of this past year Bobby finished the hat-trick. Liverpool, Target knows, will wind up paying roughly #200,000 in reimbursement to City. They saw off interest from clubs in home and overseas to secure their services.

A summer of extreme physical fitness work –“that he had been at the gym and the swimming daily,” Lewtas advised Goal newly – supposed Duncan was prepared to hit the floor running this year, and his impact was remarkable. He scored on his league debut at Sunderland in August and hasn’t looked back.

He’s been called up to train with Jurgen Klopp’s senior team at Melwood and, such as Glatzel, has emerged for Neil Critchley’s underneath -23s. His progress was noted by the folks who matter.

Post continues under

Town have been on the receiving end also. Duncan felt the winner once the sides met Kirkby in October, together with his parties carrying additional feeling to say the least. Both sides will meet in the Academy Stadium in the last league match of the season .

Before that, however, comes Thursday’s showpiece. Liverpool haven’t won the Youth Cup because 2007, although City are finalists in four of the previous five seasons.

It promises to be a cracker, and don’t be shocked if Liverpool’s No.9 lighting up it. The significant stage, it appears, was created for Bobby Duncan.
