The long-time USMNT celebrity says his adventures as a child helped his hand-eye coordination

Howard lately played his final game, finishing a career which has seen him attribute to the Metrostars, Manchester United, Everton and the Colorado Rapids.
He earned 121 caps to the USMNT, starring in 2010 and 2014 World Cups.
Howard, such as Kasey Keller, Brad Friedel and Tony Meola before himproved that Western goalkeepers can compete in the top level with any of Europe or South America’s elite, and he states comes to the various sports Americans expertise as children.
“Overall, the position of goalkeeper is about being fit, dexterous and with great hand-to-eye coordination,” Howard told Target .
“When we develop in America and play sports as American athletes, as children, everything about what we do as we develop playing each game is our hand-to-eye manipulation, while it’s playing golf, basketball, American football and baseball.
“Lots of us grow up playing basketball, particularly. So, immediately, as a young age, we’ve got just a little bit of leg up concerning starting out at age five, four and six, playing together with our palms. When you visit Europe, they instantly set the ball in your feet! It is something which helps American goalkeepers as we develop.”
In the past few decades, goalkeepers are requested to play their toes longer and more as leading clubs all around the world search because of their starters to feel comfortable playing from the trunk.
Manchester City celebrity Ederson is broadly considered a prime example, as Pep Guardiola has requested his goalkeeper to reveal relaxation with the ball at his feet.
And, while Howard hopes that trend to continue, the long-time USMNT celebrity states a goalkeeper should first prove comfy making saves and anything extra is only a bonus.
“There are likely five teams round the planet where a goalkeeper is able to play to be an outfield player. However, the goalkeepers not get too far away from rescuing the ball ,” he explained.
“Finally, that is the bread and butter if you are a goalkeeper. I see a lot of goalkeepers today who everybody says are elite, high level goalkeepers using their toes, but they fight to rescue the ball and keep it from the internet.
“Finally, the ability to create saves will forever and always be the most significant ability in the goalkeeping aspect.”
