Tottenham 1-0 Manchester City: City are among the best teams from the Earth, but are Spurs – Heung-min Son

The Tottenham forwards understands there’s still work to do against Pep Guardiola’s side, but sees his team having the ability to match their caliber

Tottenham goalscoring hero Heung-min Son does not find any motive for his side to back down by the top sides in the world.

The forwards netted the winner for Spurs at the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final battle with Manchester City on Tuesday, providing the London ensemble a 1-0 edge before the off leg at Manchester.

And while he confessed that Pep Guardiola’s team is among the very best on the planet, he considers Tottenham also must be seen as such.

“They are a large team, [we’re] both quite powerful sides, so the intensity was ordinary,” he explained to Viasport. “Manchester City is among the best teams on earth but so are we.

“The match was very extreme — I feel that the men and women who watched it’ll have appreciated it much .

“This means a great deal for me and us too, particularly within this stadium. It is our next match here and that I got the next goal in a row. We won, it is a significant win with a blank sheet and that is the most significant thing.”

Son’s goal arrived from the 78th moment, together with all the 26-year old cutting off off the line after a loose original touch and ending his left foot beneath City goalkeeper Ederson.

It was a normal piece of drama for its South Korea global, that has made a tradition of earning something from nothing in his career, and it has netted 18 occasions across all contests for Spurs this year. However, Son was quick to acknowledge that his first signature was almost expensive.

“My very first touch wasn’t so good and I feel a far better first touch could have made the end simpler,” he explained. “However, I try never to give up, attempt to find the ball and create a angle and attempt to take from a much better position.”

Tuesday’s success leaves Tottenham from the driving seat going into the next leg. The team have improved all the past nine times they have won the first leg of a European knockout round tie, while Manchester City’s history reveals three consecutive declines in the Champions League knockout rounds when dropping the first leg.

However, the triumph came at a price.

Post continues under

Star guy Harry Kane went down with an ankle injury, leaving director Mauricio Pochettino stressing that he might have lost the England star for this season.

Son was not convinced of the seriousness of the harm suffered by his team-partner, but had been hoping for the best.

“I did not see him ,” he explained of Kane. “I hope it is not too severe because he is among the greatest players to us. I need and I hope it is not bad. I am hoping to acquire more information following these interviews”
