10 Nov ‘Scoring is another step for Kovacic’ – Lampard calls for Chelsea genius to include goals to his game
The Blues manager would love to find that the Croatian midfielder enhance his participation in the last third of the pitch following a bright start to the year
Frank Lampard is convinced that Mateo Kovacic will begin scoring regularly for Chelsea now he”feels at home” in Stamford Bridge.
The 25-year old spent the 2018-19 year on loan in Chelsea from Real Madrid, racking up 49 looks across all contests under Maurizio Sarri.
The Croatia international impressed enough to make a permanent five-year contract in the Bridge, which he signed in July, and he’s made great strides forward under the new supervisor.
Kovacic was a fixture at Lampard’s lineup at the beginning of the new year, helping the Blues climb to fourth in the Premier League and compete for a spot in the Champions League knockout stages.
The prior Madrid genius has endeared himself to fans following a slow start to life from west London, but Lampard is excited for him to choose the”next step” and put in targets to his game.
“It’s commonplace for overseas players coming into the Premier League to have a time of settling , which is ordinary,” Lampard told Chelsea’s official site.
“By Kovacic, I believed there were some excellent performances this past year. The reality he was out and in the team isn’t simple but I really do think he feels at home today.
“His character shines through from the team and he’s a really likeable character with a marginally, pleasant hard side to him on and away from the pitch, and he’s a excellent player.
“Today the natural development is scoring goals and we’re functioning on that you. You may see a large grin if he dents, not only from him or me from the bunch, since we know he’s the quality to score and which is going to be another step”
French centre-back Kurt Zouma has also emerged as one of Chelsea’s very important players this period, hammering a powerful partnership alongside Fikayo Tomori at the center of the defence.

The 25-year old returned to the Bridge using a stage to demonstrate that summer following a loan spell at Everton, and Lampard immediately put his faith in a player he sees as a”pioneer in the team”.
“He [Zouma] and Fikayo have formed a very wonderful partnership and it’s excellent to have Andreas back today, and Toni will return, since you want numbers in these places,” Lampard added.
“What Kurt has done, which isn’t simple, is to venture out on loan and also individuals then begin to think about you something distinct from a Chelsea player.
“I never did. I told him quite early in pre-season he was a part of my aims here and that I think in his or her qualities. I attempt to give him that assurance and he’s got better and better as the season goes on.
“He’s a small pioneer in the team, strong physically to look at but a superior player, so I’m thrilled with how he performs.”
Chelsea can solidify their spot in the top four with a home win over Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.
