22 Jul Man City information: I cried Vincent Kompany declared he was quitting – Oleksandr Zinchenko
The flexible Ukrainian admits that he had been taken by surprise when the Manchester City captain announced his death after finishing a national treble
Oleksandr Zinchenko admits he cried when he discovered Vincent Kompany will be departing Manchester City and says the Belgian could return to the Etihad Stadium as boss one day.
Kompany stunned City fans with the statement he could be leaving the club afterwards 11 years to take a position as player-manager together with his first team Anderlecht, with this announcement coming following City clinched the FA Cup to procure an unprecedented national treble.
Zinchenko verified he understood nothing of Kompany’s choice before the cup final, in which City demolished Watford 6-0.
“I had been crying because nobody had been expecting that,” Zinchenko said. “But that is football, nobody knows what might happen.
“I want to remain in contact with him. For me he’s a lifetime legend. I am quite blessed.
“Last year he had been helping me a great deal. Beyond the pitch, within the pitch, relating to this particular position.
“I recall several times he’d me following some instruction sessions, he had been working with me about 40 moments or something to test to help me”
Pep Guardiola is contracted at City before 2021 however Zinchenko finds no reason why former team-partner Kompany couldn’t take up the training job a while down the road.
“Why not?” He explained. “He could be . He’s the cleverest man who I understand.”
It’s turned into a stunning turnaround for Zinchenko in City, since this time it seemed that he was on his way from this club using a transfer to Wolves heavily mooted.
Currently after City faced Wolves at the final of the Premier League Asia Trophy in Shanghai, Zinchenko goes to the year as first-choice left having signed a new longterm contract in June.
“That is a huge fantasy, to be a part of the group, to be a part of the massive family” he explained.
“I had been dreaming about that, now you only need to work a good deal because hard work is crucial.
“Every day you need to reveal your degree from the training sessions along with the matches and you need to fight for your location. That can be step, to become number one, and the very important to remain there. Soccer is mad, everything could change like this.
“You can be top now but again, over and over, you need to work a good deal.”
Zinchenko will use the No. 11 shirt for City this forthcoming season but insists there isn’t any special importance attached to this decision and that he’s comfortable at left-back or farther up the area, where he performs Ukraine.
“From the nationwide team I perform at the center, at Manchester City in left-back, so that I feel comfortable either side,” he explained.
“I believe that is fantastic for everybody football players, even once you’re able to play unique positions.”
Though City swept the plank on the national front . Zinchenko states that there are still steps to consider so as to enhance, not least at the Champions League in which they have been removed in the quarter-finals from Tottenham.
