The goalkeeper signed to the Reds on a complimentary prior to excelling at the UEFA Super Cup, although the Hammers was eager to maintain him

Manuel Pellegrini is pleased to see Adrian producing a direct impact at Liverpool but might have liked to have retained the goalkeeper in West Ham.

Adrian abandoned London Stadium as a free agent at the end of last year and spent the summer from job, at one stage, training using a semi-professional club at his homeland of Spain.

But close to the close of the window, Adrian signed for European champions Liverpool, substituting Simon Mignolet as Alisson’s back-up.

However an accident to Alisson from the Premier League opener from Norwich City watched Adrian rapidly thrust into the activity in Anfield. 

And on only his first start for Liverpool, the Spaniard established their UEFA Super Cup final hero using a critical penalty shoot-out rescue from Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham on Wednesday.

Adrian was limited to cup appearances last season, together with Lukasz Fabianski that the West Ham number one, however, Pellegrini still sought to maintain the 32-year old.

“I am happy for him since he played with a great deal of years here in West Ham,” Pellegrini told a press conference, representing on Adrian’s screen against Chelsea. “He is an excellent goalkeeper.

“For various reasons, he could not locate an agreement to keep here. We wanted him because not only is he a fantastic goalkeeper, he is a great player for the squad too.

“He had some troubles at the onset of the year, therefore signing for Liverpool and with this functionality, I am pleased for him.”

Adrian spent six years in West Ham, mostly functioning since the club’s first option before Fabianski’s 2018 arrival.
