Ross Barkley says he’s Chelsea’s designated penalty Chairman and insists he’ll take another one the club have been granted regardless of his 87th-minute overlook against Valencia on Tuesday.
Willian, Jorginho and Tammy Abraham were in conversation with Barkley following the referee checked with VAR to provide a penalty for a handball by Daniel Wass overdue on in the defeat to the Spanish side.
Rodrigo’s 74th-minute goal was the difference at Stamford Bridge and England midfielder Barkley has insisted that he will take a different one despite abandoning his spot-kick within the bar.
“When I am on the pitch, I will take the penalty,” he told reporters. “Clearly I did not execute it correctly but everyone misses penalties. I didn’t evaluate the target but I felt positive. When there was an additional penalty in the sport, I’d have been convinced to take it.
“You could miss penalties. It is not the end of the planet. We have got five games in the group point that we are planning to win however, this did not go our way.”
Barkley has obtained five additional penalties throughout his time in Chelsea across penalty-shootouts and through games.
But, Jorginho is your sole Blues player to score in the place in a competitive game this year after netting from the Super Cup final against Liverpool, together with Barkley on the seat.
Willian and Abraham also have taken high-profile penalties previously and Barkley doesn’t have hard feelings within the response of his team-mates until he awakened.
“We have got lots of great penalty-takers from the group and on a sheet at the changing rooms it states I am on penalties when I am on the pitch,” he added.
“Otherwise, it is Jorginho. However, just like all players, occasionally you feel confident to take these on however we could all miss you.
“They’re convinced to accept the penalties too but that I practice them daily. I really don’t overlook them in coaching and at pre-season I believed penalties. I have missed penalties prior to when I was at Everton and it’s one of these items. I am gutted I missed but those things occur.

“It [the conversations with his team-mates before the penalty] was like’good fortune with all the punishment’ kind of item. They had been encouraging me and could have been ready to take the penalty too but I felt convinced. It was a disappointing night all around. Our first match in the group stage, our very first game at home too, it was unsatisfactory.
“Missing a punishment isn’t the end of the world for me. It’s a disappointing result not coming off with the 3 points and unsatisfactory for me personally not executing the punishment. I felt convinced I would have but for me personally, it’s to concentrate on another game and to receive three points in the weekend”
Chelsea will turn their attention to a match against Liverpool on Sunday, together with the Reds also affected defeat in the Champions League since they lost 2-0 to Napoli in the Stadio San Paolo.
