Frank Lampard has brought”something special” to the Chelsea team after his return to Stamford Bridge as director, based on Cesar Azpilicueta.
Lampard’s Chelsea tenure began with a 1-1 draw against Bohemians from the Blues’ opening pre-season match in Ireland on Wednesday.
Chelsea’s record goalscorer took over as manager on July 4, after an impressive debut year in training in the helm of Derby County.
And Azpilicueta has hailed the effect that his former team-partner has had on Chelsea’s squad, admitting that shows under former trainer Maurizio Sarri weren’t necessarily up to scratch.
“It is correct that last year, for intervals, we did not give the fans exactly what they anticipated,” Azpilicueta explained. “Our performances weren’t good enough.
“We flipped it around and won the Europa League however you can see this year each the fans are extremely pleased we have the gaffer back in the Bridge.
“Today we must give back it by working hard on the pitch, by winning matches. We’re extremely pleased to have him with us. I can not add anything to his career at Chelsea as a participant.

Azpilicueta enlarged on his plaudits, including that Lampard’s devotion to Chelsea throughout his playing career sets the ideal example for the current players to follow.
