17 Jul AFCON news: Cameroon sack Seedorf following Africa Cup of Nations disappointment
The defending champions were knocked out by Nigeria at the past 16, that prompted the federation to create a shift
Cameroon have parted ways with director Clarence Seedorf, the country’s football federation have declared.
The former AC Milan coach renders the Indomitable Lions after their disappointing showing in the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in which they had been removed in the past 16 and so were not able to defend their title won in 2017.
The 43-year old Dutchman, who supposed the managerial position in August this past year, leaves together with assistant coach and former global team-partner Patrick Kluivert.
“After consulting the Fecafoot Executive Committee and the Ministry of Sports and Education, in the aftermath of the early removal of Cameroon senior man nationwide team in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, the Cameroon Football Federation, in conformity with the stipulations of this resolutive condition of their individual employment contracts, has made a decision to terminate the responsibilities of trainer Clarence Clyde Seedorf along with his helper Patrick Stephan Kluivert with immediate effect,” a statement by football federation president Seidou Mbombo Njoya reads.
Seedorf’s dismissal comes a day following Sports and Education Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi known for him to be sacked, saying the trainer’s”failures and inadequacies of specialized oversight, in addition to his inability to keep field from the team, mostly accounted for the collapse of the Indomitable Lions in the 2019 AFCON.”
After winning a single match and drawing to finish second in Group F, the Indomitable Lions’ hopes of winning a sixth AFCON title ended in disappointment after a 3-2 defeat to Nigeria from the round 16.
Before going for Egypt, Seedorf’s future turned into a subject of discussion as besides the Lions’ nondescript revealing in qualifying, his inclination to operate from out Cameroon and just pay a visit to the nation for games didn’t go down well with locals.

There also have been rumours about a fallout with assistant trainer Kluivert.

Seedorf has managed Milan, Shenzhen F.C. and Deportivo de La Coruna along with Cameroon throughout his managerial career, which started in 2014.
